Pastor Stephen Shick and Carol Shick

Pastor Stephen Shick was born in Franklin Square, New York, graduating from Sewanhaka High School in 1971. Pastor Steve felt the call of God early in his life to help people apply God's Word to everyday situations, so he attended Malone College, a Christian liberal arts college in Canton, Ohio graduating in 1975 witha major in sociology, and minor in philosophy. He taught English and social studies in Catholic Schools in El paso, Texas from 1975-1978.
Feeling a strong call to the Christian ministry, he enrolled in Asbury Theological Seminary in 1978 and greaduated with a Mastor of Divinity Degree in 1981. He has pastored United Methodist churches from 1985-1992, and part-time 1992-1996 in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, and part-time in Middle Village, Queens from 1996-2006. While pastoring part time Pastor Steve taught special education for the New York City Department of Education in Brooklyn and Queens. He holds a Masters Degree in Education and a Masters Degee in School Administration. In July of 2006, he chose to take a leave of absence from Christian ministry, and retired fom ministry in the United Methodist Church in February 2009. He retired from the NYC Department of Education in 2011. He tutors children while he serves as pastor of Middle Island Congregational UCC.
He has enjoyed ministering in local churches as he is called, preaching and leading Bible studies. Pastor Steve has two grown children, Ann Marie who is 26, and Sarah Beth who is 21. Sarah Beth is finishing up studies in communication at palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. Pastor Steve has been married to Carol for nine years, and they make their home in Lawrence, Long Island with their shi-tzu, Cream Puff. Pastor Steve is considered a strong preacher and teacher, with an emphasis on applying Biblical truths to present day living.
Pastor Steve holds dual standing as an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and the Methodist Church. He was formally installed as pastor of the congregation on Nov. 5, 2011.
